A FEW THINGS THAT ALL OF US SHOULD REMEMBER WHEN WE ENTER A COURT

1. Always be properly attired. Ladies please stick to the Colours identified in the SC Gazette.
2. Whenever you get up to appear in Court Please make sure that your coat is buttoned.
3. Do not have a disrespectful attitude towards court.
4. Do not have a casual attitude such as hands in pockets.
5. Ladies Please leave your handbags aside when making a submission.
6. Never interrupt your opposing counsel when he is on his feet.
7. Never interrupt the Judge when he is speaking.
8. Address the Court in an appropriate manner.
9. Respect the Court and the opposing counsel. Never make personal allegations against your opposing Counsel.
10. No personal remarks insulting or annoying statements.
11. Be polite courteous but fearless.
12. BOW properly to Court. It is not a 1/4 bow or a 1/2 bow but a full bow.
13. Be present in Court on time.
14. You cannot mark the Appearence of another counsel with you unless you have completed 8 years at the Bar.
15. Never turn your back to Court.
16. The moment your case is called and finished a lot of lawyers grab the books and run off. DO NOT DO THIS. Once your case is over please sit down until the next case is called. You leave only after the Counsel in the other case get up. The idea is not to leave the court empty.
16. If the work of the Court is over for the day and if you are the last lawyer in Court Do not leave the Court until the Judge concludes his work.  You cannot leave the court empty.
17. Respect senior practitioners. One day you will be a senior.
18. Most respect only their Senior or the Head of Chambers. This is wrong. Respect all seniors alike.
19. Please offer a seat to a senior practitioner if you find him standing.
20. Please carry books relevant to your area of practice to court.

MOST OF US SPEAK OF ETHICS AND ETIQUETTE. THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. PALM IT DOWN TO THE NEXT GENERATION. SEMINARS CANNOT INCULCATE ETHICS.
